10-Count Canvas Sizing
Diamond painting uses a fixed 2.5 drills per cm (10-count). ArtPatt locks this automatically. A 50×75 grid = 20×30cm canvas. A 100×150 grid = 40×60cm. Dimensions shown in both cm and inches. Standard canvas sizes available from most suppliers.
Drill Quantity Estimates
Know exactly how many drills of each DMC color to order. Standard bags contain 200 drills. The legend shows stitch count per color — divide by 200 to get bags needed. We add a buffer because drills get lost, stuck together, and occasionally arrive deformed.
Image Preprocessing
Diamond painting's 10-count resolution is low. Dark or low-contrast photos become muddy blobs. Boost brightness +15-20 and contrast +20-25 before generating. Increase saturation for more vivid drill colors — diamond paintings look best with slightly exaggerated colors.
Symbol Chart PDF
Each color gets a unique symbol. Print the B&W symbol version — it's what you reference while placing drills. Keep the color version on a tablet for visual reference. Grid pages have 50×50 sections with row/column numbers for tracking progress.

Round Drills vs Square Drills: Which to Choose
Round drills are easier to place and more forgiving — small gaps between drills are less visible. They pick up more easily with the wax pen and can be slightly misaligned without ruining the look. Ideal for: beginners, large canvases, images with lots of subtle color gradients.
Square drills create a complete mosaic finish with no visible gaps between drills. The result is sharper and more polished — like a real mosaic. But they require more precision: each drill must be perfectly aligned or gaps and misalignments show. Ideal for: experienced painters, display pieces, geometric designs, and anyone who wants that satisfying 'complete' look.
